BoA Post Tour Summer Update

After four solid months of touring, we’ve taken the past few weeks to get a little rest and recuperation. However, now as August rolls around we are getting back in gear- working on new material and doing a couple of shows, the first of which will be an outdoor show in downtown Raleigh at the Art on the Edge on August 21st. Stay tuned for details.

The other show everyone should know about is a benefit for our friend Cy Rawls who has recently been diagnosed with brain cancer and is currently undergoing chemo. Cy has been an active member of the musical community here in NC for over a decade and, chances are, if you’ve been to a show here he was there. Obviously this treatment is costly and he is without insurance so folks throughout the community are organizing to help Cy and his family. The benefit we are doing is at the Cat’s Cradle on August 29th and will feature us, The Rosebuds and Superchunk.

Back home from the Mudhoney tour

We have had a rad time on tour with Mudhoney. Things started in a whirlwind as our first show, at The Cat’s Cradle in Chapel Hill, was only two days after we got “home” (wait… what does that word even mean?) from our month long European tour, which in turn was only two days separated from our two month US tour. It was great to see some familiar faces, however briefly, and Mudhoney totally killed it.

The next night we were in Atlanta at The EARL, one of our favorite clubs in the southeast. This was another great show. The locals, Anna Kramer & The Lost Cause were hot shit. And, again Mudhoney killed it. Their set, a good mix from their newer records and classic stuff from the recently re-released Super Fuzz Big Muff is melting faces nightly. (more…)

Live BoA on the radio in Amsterdam today

It’s seldom we get more than 5 minutes on a computer if at all here in Europe, so you will have to excuse the lack of updates around here and on our myspace page.

If you read this message in time Birds of Avalon are playing live on the “Internet” at 22:00 Amsterdam, Holland time (for those in the States, that’s 1pm PST and 4pm EST). If you are near a computer then you can check it out. You will also be able to check it out later, but it won’t be live and it won’t be like being there.

Daytrotter live session is up now

About a month ago while on tour through the Midwest we stopped by the Daytrotter studio in Rock Island, Illinois to record 4 live tracks for Daytrotter who then subsequently post them on their website for anyone to stream/download. We didn’t have a whole lot of time to hang out as we were in middle of long drive day, but everyone at the studio was extremely nice and we had a great - albeit, brief - time with the Daytrotter folks.

The four songs we recorded are Measure Of The Same, Shakey Tiger, Superpower, and Turn Gold.

They are now posting new recordings up five days a week so it’s pretty good chance that you will find a bunch of other good stuff, check out their archive of recordings.
